Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
