Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese vehicles, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recent interview on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret information while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Defence Context

The announcement follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader defence situation highlights the significance of strong measures and caution in every areas of official activities, including transport usage to discussions practices.
